Ask any coffee connoisseur and they'll tell you that in order for coffee beans to develop their full flavor profile, they must be ground right before coming in contact with hot water. This is where the bistro electric burr coffee grinder comes in and becomes part of the coffee making ritual. The Bistro is continuously adjustable - twisting the upper bean container determines how finely ground the beans will be. With over 14 settings from coarse to fine, you can deliver the ideal grind for any brewing method. But there's more to it than that. Most coffee grinders use plastic containers to receive the ground coffee but plastic and ground coffee don't go together well. The powder gets statically charged and spills all over the place. The new Bistro comes with a borosilicate glass container to catch the grounds. The glass catcher is inherently static-free, reducing the amount of overall static and "jumping" coffee grounds. This and the tight silicone/nylon lid make for an excellent, no-spill coffee grinder. The borosilicate glass container comes with a silicone band to make it slip-proof, an especially important feature when touched with wet hands. The Bistro is made from borosilicate glass, steel, plastic, rubber and silicone and comes in black, orange, red, green, and white.

I've been drinking coffee for years now and know a good cup from bad. I bought this unit after doing lots of research online and going to local stores and inspecting the grinders up close. I found that most machines in this price range are using ABS plastic where the burrs are located. This to me is a big NO NO and a huge red flag. The ABS will break. This unit uses nylon or UHMW plastic at first glance. These plastics are more ductile and will last. Being a machinist, i am very picky with build quality. The burr set is conical and looks to be Stainless Steel or somesort of hardened steel. Nonetheless, both good options and the burrs look very nicely built. They have been machined and ground and look a lot like burr sets you'd see in units that are 2-3 times the price. The outside of the machine is wrapped in rubber and looks nice. Hi. I've never done a video review before, so forgive me if I ramble or go off-topic. Feel free to skip through to any parts you think are relevant. I run the grinder for the first time about halfway through the video. The first half of the video is spent explaining why I bought a new grinder, and what I hope to get out of it (less mess, less noise, consistency in the grind.) Without giving away the surprise ending (there is no surprise), I can simply say that this is the best burr grinder I have ever owned. It is also only the second burr grinder I have ever owned, so I'm no expert :) Although, I was a barista for a couple years, and I can tell a quality grinder when I see it. When the magic smoke trailed out of my ancient Krups blade grinder, I knew I was going to bite the bullet and buy a burr grinder to replace it. Reviews led me to the Bodum Bistro, so now I'll share my thoughts as well.
I make coffee one cup at a time using a Melitta cone filter basket that sits on top of my coffee mug. If you have thus far avoided the hype that is single-cup coffee brewing machines, take the money you've saved and get yourself a one-cup filter and this grinder instead. A few experimental runs led me to the coarseness (just finer than drip) and time (7 seconds) required to grind exactly as much coffee as I need for a single cup. Now I leave the settings as they are and only have to push a button in the morning. I find that a pound of coffee lasts me longer now than it did when I was using the old Krups.

When I first realized that there was such a thing as a pour-over brewer, it blew my mind. "It's just like a coffee machine, but without the machine!" Similar revelations include the fact that crackers are a thing that you can roll out yourself and bake in the oven, instead of just being the byproduct of mysterious industrial processes that you get from a box.
Anyway. This is my current go-to coffee dripper for my morning brew, which features: * Water which is actually close to boiling (standard coffee machines are not the best at this) * Nice fresh coffee beans, freshly ground (a little towards the coarse end of 'drip'), from tonx.org * Rinsing the filter while the coffee is grinding (the brown filters in particular have a little bit of papery flavor which is removed this way) * That thing you can do where you moisten the grounds a little and let the coffee 'bloom' and release carbon dioxide for thirty seconds or so before you continue brewing... I love this Hario Drip Pot. Hand poured coffee is the best but does require some care to do it right. I love the cloth filter since it eliminates the need to buy paper filters, however the cloth requires some extra care. It would be helpful if there were better instructions that came with the pot. I did some research on the web and found that regularly boiling the filter and storing it in the fridge in a plastic zip lock bag between uses will keep it fresh and ready to use. The filter should not be dried between uses.

"the sock pot", as i call it, is an awesome way to brew 2 cups of amazing coffee. this drip method makes coffee that beats, in my opinion, the Chemex and the french press. i usually use 22 grams of freshly ground coffee for each cup i am brewing, and i fill mine all the way to where the wooden handle begins to get 2 mugs of coffee. the sock should be washed out with hot water when you're done and stored in a bag in the fridge, or i read that you can freeze it. i guess the thing is to not let the flannel dry out. anyway, it works great! better design than the one from yama. my advice is make sure you're buying great beans. this type of brewing isn't really worth the fuss if you're just using average beans. but when you buy a superb bean, there is really no way to make a better cup of coffee, which is a pleasure i get to wake up to every morning! cheers!

I bought this to replace a chipped drip pot I'd been using for quite a while. This is very easy to use and makes a great tasting cup of coffee. It is also easy to clean and has held up well after several months of use. Highly recommend if you want to make great coffee in small quantities with a bit of style.
