5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Small, But Still Great, July 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: HIC Porcelain No. 1 Coffee Filter Cone (Kitchen)
For those who are familiar with and like the single-cup, hand-brewed coffee, this is a great little coffee maker. I don't like automatic coffee makers and I hate coffee that's been sitting, even for a few minutes. Making coffee this way is perfect for me. Before, I had been using a plastic cone and wasn't thrilled with it but it was all I could find around here. Plastic anything is not my first choice. It stains and I always wonder how much of the plastic I'm getting along with the brew, even using a paper filter.

This little cone is the perfect solution. It doesn't stain, rinses out quickly and cleanly, and best of all, it's NOT PLASTIC! It's heavy and sturdy and feels like a real coffee maker. It looks classy in the kitchen. It's inexpensive. What more could you want? Besides a butler or maid to make the coffee for you, I mean. If you gotta do it yourself, use this. It's a great investment in your happiness and well-being.

I use the Number 2 filters with it;... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little coffee maker!, September 13, 2011

This review is from: HIC Porcelain No. 1 Coffee Filter Cone (Kitchen)
I wanted to get away from my big coffee pot because I was throwing away a lot more coffee than I was drinking. My search for a better solution included the following requirements: I wanted to stay away from plastics, make great tasting coffee one cup at a time, and save some money. This beautifully simple device has solved all my coffee problems! It's fast, simple, and I have total control over the temperature and strength of my coffee. The filter and grounds can go into the compost pile, and the cone just needs a quick rinse and it's ready to go again. No K-Cups to throw away, no expensive fancy machine to clean and maintain (and take up counter space), and I get a great cup of coffee every time for mere pennies. What's not to love?

One note- This is a No. 1 size cone, but No. 1 filters are not readily available at my local grocery store (Houston, TX area). No. 2 and 4 are regularly in stock, however, so I picked up some No. 2 filters and they work just fine. This actually... Read more

I had a plastic one, then changed to a porcelain #4. Since I'm not a heavy drinker, I changed to this #1. It works well, what more you can expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Great, Great, October 14, 2011
This review is from: Clever Coffee Dripper
I jumped on the pour-over bandwagon years ago but, frankly, the pour-over movement has become pretentious and silly. I don't have time--nor do I care to--weigh hot water on a tared-out scale (and not just any scale; must be the "right" one). I don't want to be lectured for grinding the beans 45 seconds before infusing them (instead of 41 seconds!). I just want to make a great cup of coffee at home, without expensive equipment. In that quest, I own or have owned a Chemex, Melitta cone, Hario Woodneck, and a couple of press pots. I could make great coffee in each of them, but inconsistently. I never knew what I was going to get in response to a minute change (What if the water didn't exactly make it to 204 degrees? What if the grinder was just a little off? What if an errant air bubble prevented a tiny bit of coffee from being saturated?)

Enter the Clever. This is really easy: Flush paper filter, warm dripper (and mug), add coffee (standard drip grind works well... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever coffee dripper, June 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Clever Coffee Dripper
Just got my "clever coffee dripper" and have made two cups of coffee with it, per the instructions. The entire process takes about 5 minutes if the coffee is already ground. The longest part is letting the coffee steep in the dripper while you prepare your breakfast. After 4 minutes, you sit the filled dripper onto your cup and let it drain. It did seem better than my usual Melita drip cup and it was very easy to clean when I was finished with it. Put a drop of soap in the dripper and fill with warm water and let is sit for a few minutes. Lift it and push up the bottom and out runs the soapy water which cleans the whole system in 5 seconds. Then rinse a few times and put upside down to let it dry. Very pleased with it so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cup of coffee, BPA?, December 3, 2011
This review is from: Clever Coffee Dripper
Gadget makes a great cup of coffee and is easy to clean up. My only possible issue is that the box says nothing about being BPA free. If it is high in BPA, soaking it hot, slightly acidic water (ie, coffee) seems like a great way to release the BPA. If somebody works at an analytic lab, this might be a great public service to do a bit of testing and post the results.
