4.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, September 11, 2010

This review is from: Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
Since we don't usually need a full pot of coffee except on weekends -- I typically just grab a Starbucks "Via" instant coffee on the way to work in the morning (a pretty remarkable innovation, by the way) -- I was attracted to the hot water dispenser on this coffee maker. I like it particularly because of its 58-ounce capacity -- meaning that you don't have to keep refilling it if you're just using it once each morning to fill a car mug. My wife prefers tea to coffee, and she loves being able to get a cup of really hot water whenever she likes. (We fill it with spring water, and the results are superb.) I haven't had any problem with the "add water" light, as another reviewer apparently did. I was concerned about squandering energy by keeping a reservoir of water constantly hot, but it doesn't. It keeps only about 13 ounces of water at serving temperature; the rest of the reservoir is unheated. It doesn't take all that much energy to keep 13 ounces of water hot. And if you... Read more

This review is from: Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I looked at a LOT of different coffee makers before deciding on this model. Buying a coffee maker has to be one of the hardest things to buy. The problems come in because everyone has a different take on what coffee is supposed to taste like and unfortunately many of them are dead wrong. The most important thing for anyone that really enjoys coffee the way it is supposed to be made is that the water heats up to a sufficient temperature (greater than 190 degrees). This allows for the best flavor to be extracted from the coffee ground without that bitter taste that you get when the temperature is too low. Since most people don't know that you don't find that information in most reviews. I found that information in the good reviews for this product and it had an overall rating of 4.5 at the time that I purchased it but I was a bit concerned with some of the bad reviews. They pointed to things like the carafe leaking, the hot water dispenser side leaking or not functioning correctly, bad... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Works great for coffee,, hot water needs a redesign, May 21, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
This machine was to make both the coffee hound and the tea lover in our family happy in the morning. Only one of us is happy.. No complaints at all with the coffee maker..
The hot water dispenser has a strong bad taste that I cant get rid of with repeated vinegar or the 1 cup of lemon juice suggested by the customer service representative.. She had heard my story many times before..
The taste is similar to drinking out of a garden hose. The customer rep assured me that the insides are stainless steel and not plastic. I think there may be some quality control issues...
Even if I could get the bad taste out, the dispenser will only release 16 oz of water for the 32 oz you must put into it. This leaves 16 oz to sit until the next day to be reheated when you add 16 oz of new water.
You must always put in 32 oz to get out 16 oz. If you put in any amount less than 32 oz, the "add water" light will come on after only 6 oz drawn out..The machine will not let you take... Read more

I got this to make cold brew coffee concentrate and it works perfectly and easily. It is also great for large batches of hot brew too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

COLD BREW:
1. Add 12 scoops medium course grounds (scoop included)
2. Fill beaker half way with filtered water, stir grounds into water for about 35 seconds to saturate all the coffee
3. Fill remaining volume with filtered water leaving 1/2 inch room at the top
4. Place the bonus lid on french press and put in refrigerator for 12-24 hours depending on strength desired**
5. Once steeped for hours desired, remove lid and put filter lid on and press grounds to bottom of beaker
6. Mix coffee concentrate with water, either 1 parts concentrate to 2 parts water, or up to half concentrate and half H2O

I use 1/2 coffee concentrate, 1/2 milk over ice because I like it strong. My hubby prefers hot black coffee made... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars French Press Coffee Maker w/Option for Making Cold Brew, February 15, 2011
By
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
This is a large French press coffee maker that has a seal-tight lid that can transform it in to a cold brew coffee maker. I mainly use this for hot coffee but when my brother-in-law was visiting, I used it for cold brew; cold brew tends to lessen the irritation of the stomach than regular hot brewed coffee. He can drink cold brew with no stomach irritation.

Pros:
-Large Size - 1.5 Liter - I don't have to make 2 pots of press coffee with this size.
-2 tight fitting lids with rubber seals. The lids makes brewing cold in the fridge a snap; the coffee does not smell up the fridge or take on other odors.
-Glass Jug - Glass is best for brewing coffee hot or cold; it's easier to clean & odors don't cling. And no concerns about BPA or plastic flavor.
-Nice stainless press mechanism that comes apart for cleaning. I take it apart & run it through the dishwasher along with the glass jug. I put the plastic body through also with no problems... Read more

I love my coffee, but it does't love me so much anymore. I drink a lot of coffee. Mostly espresso, straight up -no milk, no syrup, but after having a lot of heartburn and acid reflux (and later finding out I had an ulcer) I was told I had to give up coffee. The withdrawal symptoms were awful, even worse to me than the ulcer pain. I tried Caffeine gum, but it tasted awful (eventually that didn't matter and I chewed it anyway - just because the headaches from the lack of caffeine were so bad)

Next, I tried Pre-made cold-brewed coffee, but the shipping prices made that really expensive, and I really didn't like the taste. I tried a couple of the toddy type systems too, and while they work, I found one system was too messy and the filter often clogged. The Second system leaked out all over the fridge during the night.

But this works. Easy, no-mess, It doesn't leak, and the used grounds just rinse away when you've finished drinking the coffee. It is just a... Read more

Product Description

The AeroPress is an entirely new way to make coffee, American style or Espresso style for use in lattes, cappucinos and other espresso based drinks. AeroPress brews simply delicious coffee, 1-4 cups per pressing. Ideal water temperature and faster brewing yields rich flavor with lower acidity and without bitterness. Other brewing processes use near boiling water and long exposure to coffee grounds. Quickly brew a variety of coffee drinks including an Americano or an espresso-style shot for use in lattes or cappuccinos. Its total-immersion system permits extraction at a moderate temperature and a short brew time. Water and grounds are mixed together for 10 seconds, then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in just 20 seconds, which avoids the bitterness of long processes such as drip brewing. The air pressure also gently squeezes the last goodness from the grounds, further enriching the flavor. The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in an exceptionally smooth brew. Comes With 700 Filters

  • Total immersion of the grounds in the water results in rapid yet robust extraction of flavor
  • Because of the lower temperature and short brew time, the acid level of the brew is much lower than conventional brewers.
  • Micro-filtered coffee so pure and particle-free that it can be stored for days as a concentrate.
  • AeroPress is chamber is nearly self-cleaning. A 10-second rinse of the plunger is all that's required.
  • Compact, perfect for camping. includes 1 press, 1 funnel, 1 scoop, 1 Stirrer, and enough filters to last for 2 years!!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can combine cold brew methods with this excelent device, November 10, 2009

Joe Tex (Austin Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker with Bonus 350 Micro Filters (Kitchen)
I have had my AeroPress about a year or more now. I bought mine to use at work and bought a second one for home. It is very soundly made, the only thing you need to watch out for is to be sure you use a sturdy, squat cup, not a tall thin cup, or you may tip it when pressing the brew out. It took some experimentation, but I would like to share what I have found.

Temperature, the amount of water, and the brew time all affect the result. Surprisingly, I believe the amount of water is the most critical with temperature being second. I have combined the use of my AeroPress with the idea of the recent popularity of cold brewing by using water that is only warm (about 150 deg F) and not more than about 2 ounces of water per scoop of coffee. (2 oz is about what the AeroPress is marked to allow per cup) I allow it to brew about 40 to 60 seconds, stirring the whole time before pressing out what is left. This may seem like a long time to French press users, but since so... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than French Press., January 6, 2009
By
This review is from: AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker with Bonus 350 Micro Filters (Kitchen)
This product solves all the problems I have with a French Press.

French presses are recommended for full extraction without paper filtration. But I find that once the coffee steeps it's not as hot as I like it. Cleaning a french press leaves grounds all over the sink.

The Aeropress offers full extraction and makes delicious hot coffee. You clean it by shooting the puck of grounds right into the trash. You can also throw it in the suitcase for travel. The paper filter is very thin and doesn't interfere with the flavor.

I find it best for making 1-2 cups. Five stars for coffee taste, convenience, durability, and cleanup.

This review is from: AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker with Bonus 350 Micro Filters (Kitchen)
This inexpensive coffee maker is great. I first heard about it when it was being touted by a local jazz DJ - [...]. For under $[...], I had to try it. The coffee is easy to make - effortless, I'd say. It's easy to clean - again, effortless. It makes one or two cups at a time, with consistent taste. Nothing to plug in and nothing to go wrong. I've put my $300.00 espresso maker away and use my AeroPress, even for guests, since it's so fast. The instructions are short and to the point. What more is there to say? If you want clean, smooth coffee, one or two cups at a time, you can't go wrong with this little device.
